Weave-A-Fish: get crafty for our waters

Weave-A-Fish: get crafty for our waters

Knitted marine species for Guardians of the Deep © Kent Wildlife Trust

Are you a nifty knitter or first-class at crochet? We're raising awareness about our amazing marine life and need your craft skills!

The Solent is a special place, with a huge array of amazing wildlife and important habitats under its surface. At the moment many local people aren't aware of the wonders contained in our waters, but our project Secrets of the Solent is on a mission to change that and we need your help to do it!

One of the ways we're working to raise awareness of our marine wildlife is through art, and we're seeking local textiles gurus to join us. Simply choose a species that inspires you, create it in your favourite fabric medium, and post it in to us. Your piece will be used in local exhibitions and yarn-bombing activities next year, with a tag recognising your contribution.

If you're wondering where to start then not to worry - download our information pack below for some wildlife inspiration. As we go forward we'll also be collecting patterns which you can use to create your masterpiece, so look out for future updates. If you’re participating in a group we’re happy to come and give a marine talk to get your members inspired, and we can also offer some budget for materials.
