Wilder Basingstoke & Deane was a partnership project between Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. This jointly-funded initiative aimed to encourage people to take action in creating and enhancing wild spaces where they lived, with the goal of seeing more wildlife-friendly areas and small outdoor spaces across the city, all created and supported by the community.
In early 2022, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council began searching for local communities passionate about nature. One parish was selected as the initial focus of the project, with efforts dedicated to improving and protecting existing habitats, strengthening the connections between them, and creating new opportunities for wildlife. The chosen group was from Bramley Village, a newly formed team with a core of 6 members and a Facebook group of over 120 members.
