About the event

Aged 7-11 and curious about creative writing? Join us as we explore the wonderful world of chalk streams! These incredible rivers have so much magic waiting to be discovered...

We’ll take a walk along the beautiful Upper Anton, using our senses to explore this special habitat. Then, we’ll learn how to turn our ideas into an amazing nature poem!

You can also enter your finished poem into our poetry competition. You could win £75 of National Book Tokens, and have your poem published in a special booklet.

The walk and workshop will be led by Amanda Kane-Smith of Merry-Go-Round Storytelling. Amanda is a professional storyteller and author with a passion for the natural world.

This event is part of the Tales from the Riverbank Literature Festival - a celebration of how rivers inspire creativity. This festival is a collaboration between the Watercress and Winterbournes Landscape Partnership Scheme and Hampshire Library Service.

Age range: Suitable for ages 7-11. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult (this adult does not need a ticket).

What to bring: Appropriate clothes for our walk (wellies and a coat if rainy, suncream and a hat if sunny) and a snack for break time.

Accessibility: This event involves around half a mile of walking. The route and venue are wheelchair accessible, and the venue has an accessible toilet.

Parking: The closest medium and long-stay car parks are George Yard and the Chantry Centre; both are pay-and-display. Please consider coming by public transport, or on foot, where possible.
