About the event
Bea Walecki, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust reserve officer for St. Catherine's Hill, will lead us on a morning walk round the hill topped by an iron age hillfort. We will be on the lookout for late flowering plants such as the beautiful devil's bit scabious, bastard toadflax and autumn gentian. Marbled white and chalk hill blue butterflies will be on the wing as well as lots of other invertebrate wildlife. As we walk around the hill with its spectacular views over the city of Winchester and the Itchen Valley floodplain below, Bea will give us an insight into all the varied management tasks necessary to maintain the hill's unique ecosystem.
