Working in partnership with Lakeside North Harbour

Lakeside North Harbour (managed by Avison Young) have been Corporate Members of the Trust since 2015 and have partnered more closely with us since 2022.

"Surrounded by greenspace that prioritises both wildlife and wellbeing, Lakeside North Harbour is an innovative and sustainable business campus that helps support our vision for a Wilder Hampshire and Isle of Wight by 2030."

With over forty businesses hosted on site, including supporters of the Trust - Southern Co-op and Eco Drift – the campus focuses on four core sustainability pillars: environment, transport, wellbeing, and wildlife.

There have been several highlights across the duration of our partnership so far. The Trust works with Lakeside staff to deliver four annual wildlife walks that take in some of the flora and fauna highlights from across the campus, including the 19-acre lake. Everyone is welcome to join the walks and find out more about the biodiversity on site. These walks provide a fantastic opportunity for discussion on the key issues surrounding nature protection and what can be done locally, corporately and individually to protect and enhance our environment.

Another highlight was from 2024, when Lakeside North Harbour hosted a Wildlife Family Day, inviting families to learn about wildlife and get involved with a variety of crafts and activities, such as building bug houses and planting pots. Watch this space for another wildlife event in 2025!

Alongside these events and activities, the Trust supports Lakeside North Harbour with understanding how significant local habitats are, by providing survey data and baselining, to improve aspects for nature to benefit.

Lakeside North Harbour has also made some impressive strides in becoming a fantastic example of sustainable practice. They have recently developed a major solar power generation project, where solar panels across the car park now help to power the business park as well as providing benefit to the city of Portsmouth. The energy generated on average per annum will meet around 40% of the entire site’s electricity usage and will mean, on very sunny days and weekends, excess power can be released to the grid. The project is estimated to prevent more than 900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, contributing to net zero gains for occupier businesses and the local authority.

They also champion water and waste efficient technologies and are part of The Queen’s Green Canopy tree initiative, planting sustainably sourced and pollinator friendly trees.

Lakeside North Harbour’s continued support, in enhancing and protecting habitats, supporting education and engagement, and leading in sustainable practice, is greatly appreciated by the Trust – here’s hoping we can continue to work together to support the local environment and the wildlife and people of Portsmouth.
