Nature Reserve Volunteer - Signage & Interpretation

Location: Various nature reserves across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

Purpose of role:

We are looking for reliable volunteers to help us look after the signs and interpretation across our nature reserves. These signs play an important role in welcoming visitors, sharing information about wildlife and habitats, and helping people enjoy our sites responsibly. As a Signage & Interpretation Volunteer, you will help keep our signs clean, safe, and presentable, and let us know when repairs or replacements are needed.

What you'll be doing:

• Visiting nature reserves to check condition of signs and interpretation panels
• Cleaning signs when they become dirty (for example removing mud, algae, or debris)
• Changing over seasonal and information signs
• Carrying out light maintenance such as sanding down wooden signs or posts where appropriate
• Reporting damaged, broken, or missing signs to the Marketing Officer so they can be repaired or replaced
• Occasionally taking photos or making brief notes to help us track issues

What we're looking for:

• Someone who enjoys spending time outdoors and cares about nature
• A practical, hands-on approach and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and manage your own time
• Willingness to follow basic health and safety guidance
• No specialist skills required – training and guidance will be provided

Special considerations

Our sites are not easily accessible by public transport, so having your own transport would be beneficial

Support and Expenses:

We will provide guidance, basic materials where needed, and a clear reporting process. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses can be reimbursed in line with our volunteer policy.
