About the event
Fix Water is an exciting new campaign, launching nationwide across the Wildlife Trust movement to make sure our voices are heard on this crucial subject.
Our water system is broken, let’s fix it.
We need a water system that works for people and wildlife.
Dirty rivers and seas. Water shortages. Flooding. Rising pressure on our water supplies.
These aren’t separate problems. These are signs of a water system that isn’t working as it should.
All water is connected and the way the water system is looked after should be too.
All water is connected. Water connects us all.
From the rain that falls on our hills, to the water we drink; it is all part of one water cycle.
Currently, water management is fragmented. Decisions about water supply, sewage, flooding, farming, development and nature are being made by different organisations with little accountability or transparency. It's easy to feel powerless. But there is a solution.
We believe there is a better way. We are calling for a water system built around:
💧 One System
🤝 For people
🌿 With nature at its heart
The UK Government is considering a new law to overhaul the water sector. This is our opportunity to fix the water system so that it prioritises people and nature, not profit.
The new Water Bill must be transformative and include three essential reforms:
- Local control for water
- 'Re-wire' water companies
- Treat water as critical national infrastructure
Now is the time to treat water as the critical national infrastructure it is. A healthy water system can protect everyone against flooding, drought, wildfire, ill health, food shortages, and help build a more prosperous society.
