Supporting the National Emergency Briefing Campaign
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is proud to support the National Emergency Briefing campaign. The campaign is calling for a nationally televised ‘COVID-style’ briefing on the climate and nature crisis, similar. Its aim is to ensure that people are provided with clear, evidence-based information about the risks posed by climate change and nature loss, and the actions needed to respond.
The National Emergency Briefing (NEB)
On 27 November 2025, ten leading experts delivered the National Emergency Briefing to an invited audience of more than 1,200 politicians and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media at Westminster. The briefing explored the implications of climate and nature breakdown for biodiversity, weather extremes, food systems, public health, national security and the economy, while also highlighting practical solutions and opportunities for action.
The event concluded with a parliamentary call for Government to communicate these realities more directly to the public through a formal national emergency briefing.
The People's Emergency Briefing (PEB)
To help make this information more accessible, the campaign has produced a film, The People's Emergency Briefing: a concise and engaging version of the expert evidence designed for public audiences. The intention is to encourage as many people as possible to understand the scale of the climate and nature crisis, why it matters to everyday life, and what can be done in response.
Bringing the conversation to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
The Trust has been actively supporting the campaign through local engagement and partnership events. In July 2026, we co-hosted an event screening of The People's Emergency Briefing for mayoral candidates, senior leaders, politicians and decision makers alongside the Isle of Wight Biosphere, South Downs National Park Authority, New Forest National Park Authority, Natural England and Voice for Climate and Nature. This was followed by discussion on future-proofing our economy, the role of nature in tackling climate and environmental challenges, and the importance of recognising nature as critical infrastructure that underpins healthy communities, resilient businesses and long-term prosperity. This event focused on the opportunities for a climate and nature-positive region as we move through devolution and elect a mayor for the Hampshire and Solent Combined County Authority.

We have also worked with the University of Southampton Students’ Union to host an event focused on young people's perspectives on the climate and nature crisis. Discussions explored what effective leadership looks like, the influence students can have within universities and the wider community, through local government, university decision-making and the upcoming mayoral elections.
We have taken part in panel discussions at several community screenings of the PEB, for example, an event organised by Greener Brockenhurst. We also plan to show a screening to Trust staff, volunteers and Trustees.
We are thrilled that so many of our members, partners and communities are helping to spread awareness of the climate and nature crisis through local screenings.
Get involved
We encourage our members, supporters and partner organisations to get involved with the NEB campaign by hosting screenings in their communities, workplaces, schools and organisations, and by engaging with elected representatives to support the call for a national televised emergency briefing.
If you would like information on hosting a screening, engaging with the campaign, or writing to your MP, please visit www.nebriefing.org
The National Emergency Briefing website provides a wide range of resources, guidance and campaign materials to help individuals and organisations take part.
Trust support
If you are planning an event and would like a representative from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to attend as a speaker or panellist, please get in touch.
Whilst we cannot attend every event, we endeavour to support discussions on climate resilience, nature recovery, and the role of nature in creating a stronger and more resilient future, and we greatly value every conversation taking place.
Given our limited resources, we are most likely to support events that engage strategic audiences and provide opportunities to influence policy, decision-making and long-term action for nature.
Thank you to everyone helping to spread the word about the climate and nature emergency and what must be done to tackle it.
