Formed in early 2022 after a chance meeting at a local hedgerow-planting event, the group united residents with a shared goal - to connect people and nature through local, meaningful action.
From modest beginnings, Wilder Bramley has grown into an award-winning force for biodiversity. Early projects like the Community Bee Garden at Clift Meadow transformed unused land into a thriving habitat. Villagers donated over 300 plants, work parties were assembled, and creative touches were added such as a bug hotel designed by local children. The garden now boasts multiple RHS awards and continues to inspire pride and participation across the community.
The group’s reach soon expanded: restoring Bramley Green’s grasslands, managing mini meadows at St. James Church, and conducting water quality testing in the River Loddon - one of the world’s rare chalk streams. Partnering with Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council, Wilder Bramley now helps manage Bullsdown Green, enhancing local habitats through pond creation and meadow expansion.
Beyond hands-on conservation, the group empowers residents through walks, talks, and training, building ecological skills and confidence. Their collaborative spirit has influenced local policy, contributing to the Parish Council’s Biodiversity Action Plan, and connecting with councils, schools, and neighbouring communities.
Today, Wilder Bramley boasts over 600 members online and continues to grow. Their mission remains simple yet powerful: to create spaces where people and wildlife thrive together. Through community, creativity, and care, they are proving that small actions, rooted locally, can spark a wilder future.
