Our Wilder Strategy

Nature's still in crisis

In 2020, we launched Wilder 2030 — a bold call to double the space for wildlife and inspire a movement for nature across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Since then, thousands have joined Team Wilder, restoring habitats, rewilding land and sea, and proving that people and nature can thrive together.

But today, nature is under renewed attack. In the pursuit of short-term growth, environmental protections are at risk of being rolled back and nature is too often cast as the problem. This narrative is dangerous and wrong. Nature is not a barrier to progress; it is the foundation of it.

Our refreshed strategy sets out how we’ll meet these challenges head-on, driving change where it’s needed most and working with communities to rebuild our relationship with the natural world.

There’s no time to lose — but there is hope. Together, we can change the story.

Our Vision, Mission & Role

Our vision

Our vision is for a wilder Hampshire and Isle of Wight where wildlife thrives, not just survives – where nature powers solutions, connects communities, rebuilds resilience, and helps both people and planet flourish.

Our mission

Our mission is to drive nature’s recovery by transforming the systems and values that shape our world. We work locally to restore nature and support positive change, taking action through people, partnerships, policy, practice, and place – to help create a healthier, more resilient, wilder future for all.

Our role

As a locally rooted organisation, we have a vital part to play in the global effort to restore nature and create a wilder, more resilient world. We believe transformational change is possible when people work together – and that it must start here, in the places we live.

Our strategic priorities

Our strategy sets out what we will do to start to change the system in favour of nature’s recovery – working across five strategic priorities and delivering through integrated place-based programmes.

Future-ready team

We are a strong organisation, embedded in our communities, with the people and resources needed to make change happen.

Place-based delivery

Nature’s recovery begins with place. Each landscape and seascape across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has its own character, challenges, and potential. From ancient forests and chalk streams to coastlines and city parks. Place is where nature and people meet, where restoring habitats builds pride, belonging, and lasting care for the natural world.

By focusing on place, we can meet local needs while driving wider change, creating healthier, more resilient communities and landscapes that benefit everyone.

Our place-based delivery areas - mapped below - are the starting points for nature’s recovery across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Detailed vision pages are coming soon.
