Taking place every Sunday from 10.30am to 12pm, the drop-in sessions offer people of all ages and abilities the chance to connect with nature, explore the reserve, learn about local wildlife and enjoy hands-on outdoor activities alongside the Trust's ranger team.

Each week features a different seasonal activity, helping visitors get closer to the wildlife on their doorstep. Sessions may include meadow sweeping to uncover crickets, grasshoppers and a variety of beetles hidden amongst the long grass. Participants can also try pond dipping and discover the fascinating species living beneath the water's surface. There will also be guided visits to the reserve's bird hides. Offering the chance to spot species such as black-headed gulls, oystercatchers and lapwings.

Binoculars, spotting scopes and identification guides will be available, with rangers on hand throughout to share their expert knowledge and help visitors make the most of their wildlife discoveries.

Lewis Clark, Seasonal Ranger at Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve, said: "Testwood Lakes is a fantastic place for people of all ages to explore, and Nature's Knock-in is all about helping more people discover the wildlife on their doorstep. We want local residents to come and experience Totton's hidden haven for wildlife, try something new and enjoy spending time outdoors.

"Whether that's pond dipping, meadow sweeping or wildlife watching from our bird hides, every session offers a chance to get closer to nature in a relaxed and friendly environment. Just as importantly, these sessions bring people together. By helping people connect with wildlife and with others who share an interest in the natural world, we're building stronger communities that care about protecting nature for the future."

Visitors can simply turn up on the day and follow signs to the Education Centre, where they can find details of the week's activity and meet members of the ranger team. The sessions are free to attend, with accessible parking and toilets available on site.

Located on the edge of Totton, Testwood Lakes is a 150-acre nature reserve featuring lakes, wetlands, meadows and woodland that support a rich variety of wildlife throughout the year. Buses run from Southampton and Totton which drop off approximately 10 minutes' walk/half a mile from the reserve. 

The new programme supports Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust's commitment to creating Connected Communities, a key ambition set out in its Wilder 2030 strategy. By helping people experience nature on their doorstep, the Trust aims to inspire more people to care for wildlife and take action for a wilder future
