Havant Borough’s Great Big Green Week may be over but thanks to organisers, Havant Climate Alliance, the celebrations continue for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. Following the Green Week event and thanks to an introduction from the Havant Climate Alliance, FatFace Foundation has donated £7959.62 to the local wildlife conservation charity.  The funding from FatFace Foundation will be used to support the Trust’s vital conservation work on both land and sea.

On land, their donation will support our Solent based nature reserves at Southmoor and Farlington Marshes. Both reserves are havens for birds. This year has been fantastic for avocet at Farlington Marshes, with nine fledged chicks. Lapwing also had a good year there after the Trust’s reserves team were able to get onto site to continue conservation efforts for the birds, after restrictions prevented much of this work in 2020.

The generous donation will also support the Trust’s vision of a Wilder Solent. Through two projects the local Wildlife Trust is working hard to protect the marine environment, from monitoring vulnerable species and campaigning for legal protections to undertaking restoration work. Everyone can play a part in protecting our marine world because the lives we lead on land have a massive impact on our waters.

Fundraising Development Manager, Michelle Duma said, “We are incredibly grateful to FatFace Foundation for their donation and to the Havant Climate Alliance for their support and nominating us to receive this gift. It is only thanks to people and organisations like them that we are here today and motivated to continue doing everything we can to put nature into recovery. Together we can create a wilder future.”
