Take Small Actions for Nature—Anytime, Anywhere
Micro Volunteering is made up of simple, bite‑sized actions that you can do yourself or with friends and family. These tasks support wildlife, help improve local green spaces, and encourage you to connect with nature right where you live.
Micro Volunteering offers a flexible, accessible way for people to contribute to nature and wildlife—no matter how much time they have. Whether you have five minutes a week or an occasional spare hour, your actions can make a meaningful difference in your neighbourhood, town or city.
It is ideal for anyone who wants to help but can’t commit to regular volunteering sessions. It’s also great for those who prefer to act independently, close to home, or on their own schedule. Every small action adds up—and together, we can create healthier, more wildlife‑friendly places for everyone.

- Great for young people: Can be used to log hours for Duke of Edinburgh awards, school community service, and youth volunteering programmes.
Health & Safety Guidance
Your safety comes first. Here are a few simple precautions:
- Choose safe locations—stay visible and avoid areas with heavy traffic or unsafe ground.
- Wear appropriate clothing—including gloves for litter picking or gardening tasks.
- Use safe equipment—only tools you are confident using.
- Know your limits—avoid lifting heavy items or entering hazardous areas.
- Respect wildlife—avoid disturbing nesting birds or handling injured animals unless trained.
- Let someone know where you are going, especially if you’re under 18.
Guidance for Young People and Under‑18s
We want Micro Volunteering to be safe, empowering and fun for young people. If you are under 18:
- Ask a parent, guardian or trusted adult before starting any activity.
- Stick to public, familiar areas.
- Do not pick up sharp items (e.g., broken glass).
- Work in pairs whenever possible.
- You can log your hours for programmes like Duke of Edinburgh, school awards, or youth volunteering schemes.
