10.30am Widening your Reach: ways to increase participation with your group

In this interactive session, Wilder Communities Officer, Jill Doubleday will draw on her experience to suggest ideas to attract more people to engage with your group. You’ll be encouraged to tell others what’s worked and share your tips, too.

12pm Local Nature Recovery Strategy & Planning

  • Wilder Communities Officer, Steve Bolton, will talk through the Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Hampshire. There will be discussion about how this can feed into creating local nature recovery and biodiversity plans, habitat improvement/creation plans and be used as a tool to support planning objections. There will also be opportunity to input and give suggestions on what support/tools individuals and communities would find useful to put forward objections to planning proposals local to them.

1.00pm Lunch & opportunity to have walk around Testwood Lakes or network with other people

2.00pm How to encourage bats into your community & greenspaces

  • Sophie Driver, Community Ecologist Intern will be talking about bats in Hampshire and how to attract and support them along with moths in your community greenspaces and gardens.

3.00pm Finish

Please bring a packed lunch and if you are coming with other members of your community please car share where possible. We are expecting around 30 people and there will be quiet spaces available indoors and the wildlife garden is next to the education centre with easy access.

Travel:

Car: From the M27 junction 2, take the A326 Fawley/Totton road and take the first exit, signposted Totton (A36). At the first roundabout, turn left into Brunel Road. Coming from Southampton, travel into Totton along the A36/Commercial Road, taking the second exit at the roundabout onto the A36/Salisbury Road. At the large roundabout take the third exit on Brunel Road.

Rail: Totton station is 1½ miles from the reserve, with trains running there every hour from Southampton.

Bus: Bluestar No. 12 runs every half hour, Monday to Saturday and every hour on Sundays from Southampton calling at Testwood Crescent which is ½ mile from the reserve. Wilts & Dorset X7 runs hourly Monday to Saturday from Southampton to Testwood Crescent.
