About the event
The wildflower identification for beginners course will cover:
- Introduction to plant identification terminology & use of a key
- Wildflower identification skills with an emphasis on recognising common family groups.
Is this course for me?
This workshop is aimed at beginners looking to learn more about wildflowers in Hampshire. The course will involve an introduction to wildflower identification, a look at some of the common family groups and their ecology, as well as how to use a key.

Susan Simmonds – Engagement Officer
Susan has a lifelong passion for wildlife and graduated in Environmental Science. She has worked in the conservation sector for over 20 years. Susan is also a sessional lecturer at Sparsholt College on the Wildlife Ecology and Conservation degree and the Land & Wildlife Management Level 3 Diploma.
Susan has a Certificate to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) and enjoys teaching her skills to others through courses like plant species identification and habitat management.
She has a desire to make a difference and to play a part in conserving our natural world and believes that she can do this through passing on knowledge and enthusiasm and therefore empowering others. She loves species identification and regularly teaches wildflower identification; water vole survey techniques and more recently river fly surveying.
Susan loves the outdoors and spends her free time hiking, cycling and photographing wildlife.
