Local Area Volunteer Groups raise over £5,000 for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust

Eight Local Area Volunteer Groups from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been raising money for the Trust throughout the winter months.

Dedicated groups of enthusiasts lead and run a whole host of events for local people to get involved in, helping them to engage with wildlife and their neighbouring environments. The volunteers organise wildlife talks, walks, and other engagement activities to educate and inspire people across our two counties about the beauty and importance of local wildlife as well as raising vital donations for the Trust.

The eight groups are spread out across our region:

  • Winchester
  • Romsey
  • Basingstoke
  • Bishop’s Waltham
  • Isle of Wight
  • Fareham
  • South Downs
  • Hart & Rushmoor

Some of these groups have been supporting the charity since its founding in the 1960s. Over the years they have played such an important role in the Trust’s ability to connect people with wildlife.

Through their tireless dedication and efforts, the volunteers have collectively raised £5,102.64 for HIWWT from December 2023 to March 2024.

Conor O’Hagan, Engagement Officer at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust works with the Local Area Volunteer Groups, supporting them in their efforts. He said: “I am so encouraged by the fantastic work our Local Area Groups do to engage local people with the Trust, and their local environments. With regular events throughout the year, the volunteers dedicate so much of their time and skills to support the message of the Trust, whilst raising an incredible amount of money for us to put towards our mission. They make a huge difference to the work we do, and their efforts are greatly appreciated!”
