About the event

Join us for an evening with Matt Gaw - author of the acclaimed book The Pull of the River: A Journey Into The Wild and Watery Heart of Britain. A joyous ode to finding adventure in familiar places, the book follows Matt and his friend James as they explore Britain's rivers in a homemade canoe. In this talk, Matt will delve into the inspiration behind his work, and shine a light on his creative process.

Matt is a writer, journalist, and English teacher who lives in Bury St Edmunds. He is the author of The Pull of the RiverUnder the Stars: A Journey Into Light, and In All Weathers: A Journey Through Rain, Fog, Wind, Ice, and Everything In Between. His journalism has been published in The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Times, and Countryfile Magazine.

This event is part of the Tales from the Riverbank Literature Festival - a celebration of how rivers inspire creativity. This festival is a collaboration between the Watercress and Winterbournes Landscape Partnership Scheme and Hampshire Library Service.

 

Time: Doors will open at 6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start. The event duration includes the talk and questions from the audience.

Age range: Suitable for ages 12+. All under-18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult (please ensure that this adult has also booked a ticket).

Accessibility: The venue has wheelchair access and an accessible toilet.

Parking: The closest car parks are London Road and Overton Hill; both are pay-and-display. Please consider coming by public transport, or on foot, where possible.
