Policy on Fox Hunting

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust does not support fox hunting and we don’t allow hunting on our nature reserves. We will also challenge aspects of field sports and hunting where they have a damaging impact on the conservation of our populations of wild animals and plants.

On occasion, fox populations may need to be controlled for the greater good of surrounding wildlife, but hunting with dogs is not an efficient, sensitive or targeted method of management.

We do work closely with landowners, farmers and the wider rural community, many of whom participate in field sports as well as being active conservationists. It is only through building these relationships that we can achieve our objective of protecting wildlife and wild habitats. Some of the views and activities of these landowners do not always reflect our own but it is only through joint working and collaboration that we can educate others and make the difference to restoring and protecting wildlife that is desperately needed.
