Isle of Wight Nature Reserves

Isle of Wight Nature Reserves

With over 50% of the Island protected as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and one of only seven places in the UK to be declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Isle of Wight has some of the most spectacular landscapes and diverse, rich habitats in the country for wildlife.

We currently manage 16 sites across the Island, supporting some incredible species. From nationally important populations of butterflies including the chalkhill blue, to iconic birds such as kingfishers and barn owls, our Island reserves are havens for precious species, including of course the infamous red squirrel.

Did you know… the Isle of Wight is home to 80% of the world’s population of early gentian, a rare wildflower plant found only on the chalk soils of Britain.

We are proud that our Island nature reserves provide a refuge for some of our most vulnerable wildlife. These special places are vital to the existence of much of our biodiversity and without them, wildlife would be in a far worse state.

By donating you can help us to continue managing these precious havens for wildlife, now and in the future.
