Shoresearch at Calshot by Paul Floyd
Join our Shoresearch project and learn more about your area’s varied marine life – whilst helping to build a complete picture of our stunning coastal habitats.
You don’t need any special skills or knowledge to take part. We offer training courses each year so you can learn how to conduct a survey and what to look out for, or you can simply come along to surveys and learn as you go. All you need to do to take part is book on the survey you’d like to attend, then turn up on the day!
Everyone can get involved in Shoresearch. By joining a survey you can contribute to our shared knowledge about the health and diversity of our marine life. See survey and course dates and how to book here.
Training & Survey Information
Surveys take about 2-3 hours and are conducted between March and September in a variety of locations around Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Our survey areas include a range of habitats such as rocky outcrops, shingle, gravel and some man-made structures.
You can find out more about upcoming surveys and survey results by signing up to the Shoresearch mailing list. Please email Owain.Masters@hiwwt.org.uk to sign up.
Newsletter & blogs
You can see what we have been finding on our surveys by reading the Living Seas blog. Shoresearch posts date back to 2014 when the blog first started.
We also produce a newsletter at the end of each season. Our 2015 Shoresearch Newsletter is now available with previous years editions available electronically on request.
Contact our Secrets of the Solent Community Engagement Officer Owain Masters on Owain.Masters@hiwwt.org.uk for further information or queries about Shoresearch.
Our Shoresearch activities are currently supported by the National Lottery through The Heritage Lottery Fund. Past supporters include Carnival UK and Bio Driven.
