Walk from Emsworth - Westbourne along Chalk streams
Event details
About the event
Come and join us for a wonderful walk from Emsworth to Westbourne and back again (following the River Ems & Lumley stream, which are both rare chalk watercourses). We will meander through Peter Pond (Local Wildlife Site and hopefully trout spotting); Brook Meadow (a lovely wet meadow and local nature reserve, full of botanical interest from Yellow rattle to Orchids) and then north to Westbourne, where you can see the old water meadows in adjacent fields and then back following the chalk stream down to Lumley, which has a combination of watercourse and weirs and we might be lucky to see an array of birds, dragonflies, damselflies, trout, kingfishers and if we are quiet water voles. The route for the walk, which takes in a chalk river (Ems) & stream (Lumley), Brook Meadow Local Nature Reserve, ancient water meadows, and is just over 2.5 miles.
