Forest School with the Wildlife Trust
16 August 2012
Have you heard about Forest School and want to find out more? Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is offering short taster courses in north Hampshire in September and October. The tasters are aimed at adults who may have heard about Forest School but would like a deeper understanding of what it is, why it is special, and how it differs from conventional schooling methods.
The aim of the sessions is to provide attendees with a Forest School style experience, share example activities and to introduce the ethos and benefits of the scheme. The approach to risk, an integral part of the process, will also be examined. Participants will take home something unique that they have created and an information pack containing further activity ideas and information about development and training opportunities.
Experienced Forest School leaders from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust will guide discussion, interactive and practical activities in a classic woodland setting. By the end of the taster course you will have a real flavour of what Forest School is all about.
Forest School is an inspirational process for participants and practitioners alike, regardless of age or ability. The child-led process develops self esteem, confidence and communication through hands-on learning in an outdoor environment. The course will be held mainly outdoors and will cover the Forest School approach to child development and learning, Forest School theories and teaching styles, Health and Safety at Forest School and importantly participation in typical Forest School activities.
There are two opportunities to get involved:
- An evening taster course running over 3 Tuesday sessions from 4.30pm – 7.00pm starting on September 11th, followed by 18th and 25th.
- A one day course on Saturday 6th October running from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
The courses will be held at Herriard, just south of Basingstoke. The cost for either course is £40. For further details please contact Adrian Goodhand on 01256 381103 or 07785 95 2225, adriang@hwt.org.uk
