Big Day Out at St Catherine's Hill

26 April 2012

St Catherine's Hill

Join Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust on Saturday 19th May 10.30am-3.00pm to celebrate 100 years of The Wildlife Trusts at our Family Fun Day at St Catherine's Hill, Winchester.

There are some great activities to get involved in: Guided walks, explore the nature trail, try the grassland bug hunt, and look back at St Cath’s history time line. You’ll be able to meet the sheep and cows, see demonstrations of wool spinning, and have a go at hurdle making. There are of course plenty of activities for children including a range of crafts and displays.

Refreshments will be available, with tasty mutton and beef burgers being served throughout the day, and a special Wildlife Trust birthday cake will be cut by our mascot, Bramble the Badger.

You can park at the St Catherine’s Park and Ride, Garnier Road, Winchester, SO23 9NP (Map ref. SU 483 280), just off Junction 10 of the M3, and a short walk from the nature reserve.  For further details please visit the Wildlife Trust's website www.hwt.org.uk or contact Michael Allen on 07831 692963.

St Catherine’s Hill is simply a wonderful place. Rising about 70m above the River Itchen floodplain, this hilly chalk outcrop rewards those who possess the stamina to tackle the 100 steps to its peak with the breathtaking views over the beautiful Itchen Valley. With vibrant butterflies flitting across the grassland filled with stunning wildflowers and the best views for miles around, St Catherine’s Hill is the place to visit for a spring outing.
